Conversations through the middle

Life from a (slightly) more mature perspective

A great combination for daily skincare

June 1, 2023

I don’t often wear make-up, but I do apply every day without fail, both day and night – and I’ve done so since I was around 14 years old.

Back then, Boots Baby Lotion was enough and remained my go-to skincare product way into my 20s. As we all know though, at a certain point in time, age catches up and there’s a shift: what once worked no longer does and it’s time to move on.

Beauty review: Pond’s beauty creams

September 18, 2012

Lovers of the iconic Pond’s Cold Cream may be interested to learn it has been relaunched.
Ponds, which has been in the business of beauty for many years, has revamped the product for a new and – I think – younger audience, presenting it in blush pink packaging designed to appeal to contemporary users.

The cold cream is billed as a cleanser, though I recall women using it as a moisturiser; then again the press release states it can be applied as a face mask or used as hand cream, which fits.
It has a thick, rich texture, which seems to sit on the skin rather than fully absorb, the fragrance is pleasant if not the one I remember and it’s even supposed to remove mascara! I will be giving that a try. It is suitable for all skin types and you can find more information here.
I didn’t realise that as well as Cold Cream, Pond’s also offers moisturisers for different skin types: Triple Action Moisturiser is designed for mature skin and contains vitamins A and E, and glycolic acid, while Nourishing Anti-Wrinkle Cream is formulated for dry skin, with vitamin B3 and white tea extract as well as an SPF of 15.

There’s also Hydronourishing cream for normal to dry skin, which I have a sample of. I haven’t used it on my face yet so I can’t say if it does “increase the skin’s elasticity for a smooth, supple complexion”, as the press release states, but I can say it’s light, sinks into the skin easily and doesn’t leave a greasy residue. I don’t really like the fragrance of this – it is too detergenty for me – but on the plus side it contains nourishing evening primrose oil.

Honey, honey – Nuage manuka skincare

September 7, 2012

I’m loving the Manuka Honey skincare range from Nuagé – I’ve tried the hand & nail cream and the face cream, both of which smell delicious.
The products contain vitamin E and shea butter as well as antibacterial manuka honey, which is usually present in mid market to expensive skincare products. This however is a budget range – great news – with the most expensive product coming in at under £10.

With a unique manuka factor (UMF) of 10+ Nuagé’s formulations fall into the therapeutic skincare bracket; they’re also paraben-free, suitable for all skin types and are said to moisturise the skin for up to 48 hours.
I find the hand cream absorbs quickly, though it did leave a slightly greasy feel afterwards (perhaps I applied too much product), however my hands now feel softer. As for the moisturiser, the consistency is light, the fragrance more subtle but other than that I haven’t been using it long enough yet to form an opinion.
There’s also a body lotion, which I haven’t tried.
These also get the thumbs up from Dot who is constantly swiping the hand cream for her own use.

I live in the countryside with my dogs and cat, and I love horses, yoga and running (sometimes). Writing is what I do - I've tried other things, but keep coming back to it. And I'm learning to meditate.
