It is a hot day today in Teesdale. I know those of you south of York have been melting for weeks in this glorious weather, but up here, it’s been a tad chilly. One day last week I had to switch the heating on!
Not today though, today it’s 26 degrees C and the sun is blazing in the sky (doesn’t sunshine just make you feel happy!) I took Dilly and Mabel out for a short walk – don’t worry, I kept it short, we stayed in the shade where possible and I tested the heat of the pavement before we set out. It’s a fine balance, but I decided their mental and physical health would benefit from stretching their legs and having a good old sniff.
Anyway, despite keeping it short we were all melting when we got home. They lay down to chill and I started thinking about the cans of water I used to buy in France, for spraying on my face in the heat. They were amazing. I’ve written about them on the blog several times – they were soooo good in the summer heat of Paris. I have no idea if they still exist, but then I remembered I have something that might work in a similar way – Neal’s Yard Reviving White Tea Facial Mist.
I bought this a while ago and today was definitely the day to try it out. Unlike the mineral water misters of my past, this spray is perfumed and smells of oranges (one of my favourite fragrances). It contains white tea and organic aloe vera. It’s also in a much tinier bottle, which while it won’t last as long, is easier to fit in your bag than a massive tin of water.
It smells lovely and feels cool on the skin. This coolness lasts for a few minutes bringing welcome relief on a day like today. The aloe vera also soothes the skin (the gel is a very good for sunburn), while white tea is an antioxidant so also nourishing for your skin.
It comes in a glass bottle, but I’m in two minds about this. On the one hand it is lovely to have something in a glass bottle instead of plastic. On the other hand, plastic doesn’t break as easily as glass and is also lighter to carry around in your bag.
This doesn’t detract though from the fact the spray itself is lovely. That said, I still prefer the mineral water sprays of my past – unfragranced, practical and inexpensive.
Neal’s Yard Reviving White Tea Facial Mist costs £15 on their website (but I bought mine a few months ago when it was on offer, so it’s worth shopping around.)
