Life from a (slightly) more mature perspective

Birthday present

September 6, 2022

Woman-alone-meditating-back-to-camera

Today is my birthday. I’ve been blessed with 58 years on this glorious planet and I hope there’s many more to come.

It has been a day of reflection and happiness, I have felt close to the people most important to me, even though they’re not here with me (or I with them) and that is the most wonderful feeling. Sometimes, being of a certain age and no longer having a significant other, life can feel a bit lonely. I have worked hard this past year learning to love living with myself, being alone. It can be a lovely state – nobody to pick up after, nobody to argue with, but sometimes, it can be a bit much – nobody to pick up after, nobody to argue with.Read more

Crazy energy cap!

August 26, 2022

So the news we’ve all been waiting for came through this morning – energy bills will go up 80% in October and the energy price cap is rising to £3,549! According to money guru Martin Lewis, that means bills rising to £4,460 on a typical bill from October to April! The figure expected before the announcement was £2,800. She is already best pals with Dilly, my Pointer cross, who has been so lonely since my little Angel died last summer and since his best friend Aston moved away with his dad (another story).Read more

Back – a little older, but I’m not sure I’m any wiser

August 8, 2022

Well it’s been a long time – round seven years I think – but I’ve started blogging again. A new name, as no way am I still in my 40s, but hopefully this one will last indefinitely. I was going to start a new blog as it has been so long and so much has changed, but I was reading back through 40s Chic, fondly remembering my life then and I thought, why not keep it? It’s part of me, it’s my past, my history, so that’s what I’m doing.

I live in the countryside with my dogs and cat, and I love horses, yoga and running (sometimes). Writing is what I do - I've tried other things, but keep coming back to it. And I'm learning to meditate.
