Crazy energy cap!

So the news we’ve all been waiting for came through this morning – energy bills will go up 80% in October and the energy price cap is rising to £3,549! According to money guru Martin Lewis, that means bills rising to £4,460 on a typical bill from October to April! The figure expected before the announcement was £2,800. The only answer to that is WTF! Who on earth is going to be able to accommodate this huge price rise assuming other costs are constant (which they aren’t thanks to around 10% inflation)?

Staying cool in the heat

It is a hot day today in Teesdale. I know those of you south of York have been melting for weeks in this glorious weather, but up here, it’s been a tad chilly. One day last week I had to switch the heating on!

Not today though, today it’s 26 degrees C and the sun is blazing in the sky (doesn’t sunshine just make you feel happy!) I took Dilly and Mabel out for a short walk – don’t worry, I kept it short, we stayed in the shade where possible and I tested the heat of the pavement before we set out. It’s a fine balance, but I decided their mental and physical health would benefit from stretching their legs and having a good old sniff.Read more

Tails of a Spanish rescue dog

Hello Mabel and welcome to our family – or should that be hola Mabel?

Mabel has travelled all the way from Spain to find her forever home. She has been with us just under two weeks and already she has totally found her paws. She is already best pals with Dilly, my Pointer cross, who has been so lonely since my little Angel died last summer and since his best friend Aston moved away with his dad (another story).Read more
