Conversations through the middle

Life from a (slightly) more mature perspective

The view from the woods – I have no idea why it has come out black and white!

This is my beautiful Christmas poinsettia, which is still looking amazing even though the festive season is long gone now (or so it feels to me anyway). The next image I took using the macro setting on my camera – I’m told it’s better for close-up photographs but I don’t see any difference really. I think I need to read a book on photography and improve my skills. Another thing to add for the list this year.

The art of fashion

January 19, 2013

I love this dress from the Ruby + Ed spring summer collection. It looks like summer – all those colours, very like one of my favourite paintings, Water lilies, by Monet.

The inspiration for this year’s collection is Van Gogh’s Almond Blossom, which is not a painting I’m familiar with so I had to look it up. And it’s beautiful.

There’s lots of printed fabrics, pale watercolour florals and some colour blocking (yes, it’s been around a while, but apparently it is hanging on in there for next season.)

I’m also rather taken with this Ria Silk Smoke Top:

And just in case you think I’m getting too far ahead of myself talking spring summer, I found this lovely fake fur coat in their online sale – it’s £139.30 – there’s £59.70 off, a big saving on the original £199 – and it looks so warm I don’t think I’d ever be cold again wearing it. I am definitely tempted. What do you think?

My dinner, courtesy of Jenny Craig. I have been following this diet for a while now and this is one of my favourites among all the meals included in the hamper, probably because I often make veggie bean chilli myself and have done since I was a student.
As for how much weight has come off… let‘s just say I’m happy with my progress, but that I have a long way to go. Why is it that putting on weight is so easy and happens so quickly, yet taking it off again is so difficult? Alas, that is one of the great questions of life!

I live in the countryside with my dogs and cat, and I love horses, yoga and running (sometimes). Writing is what I do - I've tried other things, but keep coming back to it. And I'm learning to meditate.
