Interiors – what’s cooking in the kitchen?

September 3, 2012

While I was in Germany last week I visited the largest consumer trade fair in the world, IFA. I can hear you yawning from here, but in fact it was fascinating.

From my point of view I was focused on covering the home appliances section and there were some pretty wonderful things on show.

I’ve chose the following items to share with you because they are unusual, look great or are just weird, however there were so many other appliances being introduced that may look like your usual kitchen kit but are so high tech it’s untrue. I’ll come back to those later, beauty first and all that…
I love this Union Jack design, it fits with all the Olympic joy of this summer.
The Big Ben image is not available, it’s to demonstrate you can have whatever you want on your Stoves cooker.
… and you can have it in any colour…hot pink for hot food
I love the orange (though it looks more yellow here)
Vacuuming is not the most exciting of tasks but you can make it more
sensational with this Sebo Felix 1 cleaner, studded with Swarovski crystal elements.
Fabulous darling…
Or how about one of these colourful cuties…
Perhaps you would prefer this robot to clean your floors.
It reminds me of a bug, especially when it moves around the cabinet…
His friends come in lots of different colours too!

A few days in Germany…

August 29, 2012

So, I’m in Berlin!

I arrived this afternoon and I’m here until Friday evening, and I can’t wait to explore. The Concorde Hotel is gorgeous, but I can’t see much out of the window except other buildings, so I don’t know how close I am to historic places or things to see. I did mean to buy a city guide at Stansted but completely forgot.

Welcome to Berlin!

I’m here along with various other journalists for a factory tour, new home appliances launch and a visit to what promises to be the most enormous exhibition – the IFA,  the world’s largest consumer electronics show.

There will be lots of digital loveliness I’m sure, but what I’m interested in are the latest high-tech home appliances that will be making their debut at this exhibition. I’ve already heard about a transparent fridge and I’m sure there’s loads more just waiting for me to discover. All products designed to make our lives easier.

In the meantime, until I have images of those brand spanking new goodies to upload, here is my experience of Berlin so far – my room, bathroom and view from the window!

I’m making a mess already

See how the floor tiles match the vanity unit?

Fun stuff – customise your ice cream toppings

August 16, 2012

I saw this and couldn’t resist telling you about it. Now you can make ice cream toppings (or cake decorations) from any of your favourite chocolate or sweets – within reason – the only limitation being your imagination and how highly you value your teeth.

Seriously though, it’s a great idea for occasional use or kids’ birthday parties. Pop your ingredients in the Topper Chopper, turn the handle to mash them up, then just sprinkle them out of the base or use it for dipping ice creams in.

At £19.99 I think the price is a little steep and could put people off – especially when compared to ready-made toppings –  but for kitchen gadget gurus, it’s a must.

It’s by Prepara Chef’s Performance Tools and is available at www.steamer.co.uk

Cosy cushions and throws for autumn winter

August 9, 2012

I love the autumn winter home collection from French Connection. The company hasn’t long been in the home market and these beauties are as you would expect – chic, elegant, simple yet subtle and understated.

The throws look big and soft enough to bury yourself in on a cold night while the cushions echo the colours of autumn grey, blue and berry. Fabrics are wool, linen, cotton and denim (love it), while materials range from wood to stone to recycled hand-blown glass.

I don’t have any prices for these but knowing French Connection’s clothing range, they won’t be cheap, nor however will they be exorbitantly expensive. An affordable treat perhaps. Here are a few of my favourite pieces – what do you think? www.frenchconnection.com

I live in the countryside with my dogs and cat, and I love horses, yoga and running (sometimes). Writing is what I do - I've tried other things, but keep coming back to it. And I'm learning to meditate.
