So, I moved back to the north east, not quite back to where I was born, in Gateshead, but across the river to Newcastle.
Sanctuary Spa giveaway results and hi, it’s 2014
Hi everyone.
Happy New Year!
Please forgive my recent radio silence, but my life has undergone the biggest change since giving birth to Dot 12 years ago. Yes, I’m now a single mum and I’ve moved back to the country of my birth – Geordieland.
It’s been a shock and still is.
I’m sure I’ll be writing loads about life changes and experiences in the days to come.
However, now is not the time. Now is the time to announce the winner of our Sanctuary Spa giveaway – nothing like a bit of pampering to make a girl feel special and cheer her up I think.
The winner of the Ultimate Girls Night In kit, which I posted about here is…
Louise Rah.
Congratulations Louise, email me your address and I’ll post your prize to you asap.
Now that I have a kitchen table to work at and a chair to sit on, normal service will resume. I also have a beauty giveaway lined up for next week so watch this space.

Pamper Grotto with Sanctuary Spa and giveaway – Merry Christmas!
Last week I joined lots of other bloggers in London for the PZ Cussons Christmas beauty blogger Pamper Grotto. Hosted at the lovely St Martin’s Lane Hotel, this was an opportunity to get to know four of the company’s brands a little better – Sanctuary Spa, Fudge Urban, St Tropez and Charles Worthington haircare.
It was a great evening, catching up with a few old faces and meeting new ones. I enjoyed a couple of glasses of Prosecco, canapes and Percy Pigs (gummy/jelly sweets) – and had my nails done, all the time with Christmas songs playing and Bing Crosby’s White Christmas on screen in the background.
Experts were on hand to provide hair chalking with Fudge chalks (the results I saw looked amazing), hair styling and spray tans. I didn’t go for a tan, but I did speak to St Tropez tanning guru Jules Heptonstall, who is celebrity tanning and skin finishing expert on Strictly Come Dancing.
I couldn’t resist: “What are they like”, “Any gossip”, “What about the judges, is Craig Revel Horwood as harsh as he seems, or is that just his TV character”? Alas, he would not be drawn, he was the soul of discretion and all I learned was they are all lovely people on Strictly.
He was so down to earth, not diva-ish at all, and a joy to talk to.
The evening was rounded off with a generous gift from PZ Cussons to you, my blog readers. I was asked to select a gift from around the Christmas tree to use as a giveaway on 40s Chic, which of course I was delighted to do.
And here it is – I’ve chosen the Ultimate Girls Night In kit, which contains Radiance Exfoliator (15ml), 5 Minute Thermal Detox Mask Sachet (15ml), Spa Facial Headband, Luxury Bath Float (75ml), Body Butter (100ml), Body Scrub (50ml), Hand Cream (30ml), Spa Perfect Manicure Orange Sticks and a Spa Perfect Manicure Emery Board.
I thought it was just the thing for an evening of de-stressing among the frantic whirl of wrapping paper, shopping and Christmas prep. Share it with friends in a get together over a bottle of wine, or your daughter (Dot is so into beauty at the moment), or just pamper yourself…
To enter simply follow 40s Chic on Bloglovin, tell me you have done so, and leave a comment below. Remember to leave a contact in your comment (Twitter handle, blog address etc) so I can get in touch if you’re the lucky winner. Winner will be chosen at random through random.org. If I cannot contact you then the prize will go to the next person on the randomly generated list.
(Open to over 18s and UK only – sorry. One entry per person. Closing date is midnight on Tuesday 10 December. Winner will be chosen at random through random.org. Any questions just let me know.)

Pocket-friendly skincare launch
Interesting news at the Waitrose spring summer 14 launch last week – the supermarket is working on its own brand of natural skincare. The core range of eight products will contain 95% natural ingredients, is fragrance free and suitable for sensitive skin, but the really interesting thing is the most expensive item in the collection will cost just £2.99!
I know, I can’t believe it either and I’m excited about trying the products in the New Year. It’s all very well to have a low price point, but they have to deliver in moisturising and skincare terms also otherwise who will buy them? So let’s hope the range delivers what the enthusiastic folk I spoke to at Waitrose believe they will.
I tried the facial oil on the back of my hand and it was soft, but it’s hard to gauge any real effects with just a drop of product, so I’m looking forward to really putting the range through its paces when I receive samples in January.
I’m not sure what the collection will be called – the samples I saw are still at the no label stage and were perhaps not even in their final packaging – but I’m told it will go into stores in March.
Could this raise the bar in terms of inexpensive skincare?
